Applying blush is the best way to add a pop of color to your cheeks, which makes you look younger, prettier and healthier. Applying too much or too less blush can ruin your makeup look. When it comes to blush, it’s not just about choosing the right shade of pink for your skin tone. It’s also about choosing the right texture of blush for your skin type and the application technique according to your face shape.
TYPE OF BLUSHES
Powder Blush: Powder blushes are easy to blend. They suit all skin types but are best recommended for oily skin.
Cream Blush: Cream blushes are a great option for people with dry and aging skin. Cream blushes are moisturizing and give a dewy finish when applied.
Tinted Blush: Tinted blushes are a great option for normal to oily skin type. They dry super quick but are long lasting and a little goes a long way.
Shimmer Blush: Shimmer blushes can be used to add a little shine to your face. Best used during evening time also can be used instead of a highlighter.
BLUSH FOR DIFFERENT SKIN TONE
Fair Skin Tone: If you have fair skin tone you should opt for light coral, peach and soft pink blushes.
Medium Skin Tone: Rose, mauve and rich pink blush suits medium skin tone the best.
Dark Skin Tone: Deep red, deep rose and berry colored blush looks fantastic on dark skin tone.
With blush, a little goes a long way. So it is important to start light and gradually build up. A tip to make sure your blush lasts longer is to apply cream blush first, blend it and then sweep a bit of powder blush on top. This will not let your blush fade mid-day.
BLUSH APPLICATION FOR DIFFERENT FACE SHAPES
Blush application isn’t as simple as it seems. It is not just about swirling some rouge onto your brush and applying it on the apples of your cheek. Every face shape is different and requires different application style. Applying blush according to your face shape makes all the difference.
HEART SHAPE FACE
If you have a narrow chin, wide forehead and prominent cheekbones, then you have a Heart shaped face.
Applying blush in a ‘C’ shape and going upward, starting from the center of your cheeks till the end of your eyebrow will help soften your features.
OBLONG SHAPE FACE
If you have a long face with your forehead, cheekbones and jaw line of the similar width then you have an Oblong face.
You just need to apply blush on the apples of your cheek in circular motion and avoid highlighting your cheekbones.
SQUARE FACE SHAPE
If your face is straight at the sides and forehead with an angular jaw line, then you have a Square face.
Stick to the basics. This means going for your basic blush application technique and putting some color on directly to the apples of your cheek.
ROUND FACE SHAPE
If you have fuller cheeks and a round or slightly curved jaw line then your face shape is Round.
Applying blush on the apples of your cheek on a round face will make it look even rounder. The goal is to highlight the cheekbones so start applying blush from the end of your cheeks towards the temple. Avoid using shimmer blush at all cost.
OVAL FACE SHAPE
If you have a long face with slightly rounded forehead and jaw line and fairly prominent cheekbones then you have an Oval face.
People with oval face shape can pretty much get away with anything. You should apply blush at the most prominent part of the cheekbones.
