Fash Beauty Talk: HIGHLIGHTERS

We all love a good Highlighter that helps us fake that natural glow-from-within look. Today we talk about the different types of highlighters, where to apply highlighter on your face and what color highlighter suits your skin tone the best. Let’s begin.

TYPES OF HIGHLIGHTERS

Basically there are three main types of highlighters you can use; Liquid, powder and cream.

Liquid Highlighter: Liquid highlighters are super easy to use and a little goes a long way. Liquid highlighters are pigmented than powder highlighters and give maximum shine. To achieve that overall glow-from-within look, mix a little liquid highlighter in your foundation and apply all over your face.

Powder Highlighter: The basic kind of highlighter we all use. Powder highlighters give a sheerer and shimmery finish when applied.

Cream Highlighter: Also called as stick highlighters, these are portable and user friendly. These can be used to highlight specific areas on the face without needing a brush to do so. Just swipe on your face and dab with your fingers to blend.

HIGHLIGHTERS FOR DIFFERENT SKIN TONES

Fair skin tone: Women with fairer and lighter skin tone should go for Silver or Champagne Pink based highlighters.

Medium skin tone: If you happen to have olive or medium skin tone, Peach and Gold highlighters work best for you.

Dark skin tone: For darker skin tones Gold and variation of gold highlighters like bronze gold and rose gold that are super pigmented work the best.

HIGHLIGHTER APPLICATION

No matter how many makeup tutorials you’ve seen on how to apply highlighter, highlighter application can be tricky. Too less at the wrong places makes your face look greasy, too much and your face looks like a shiny disco ball. We list the 5 spots on your face you need to apply highlighter to let your features shine through.

CHEEKBONES

Highlighters are applied on the cheekbones to give your cheeks a bit of definition. It is also where the light naturally hits your face the most. Apply highlighter after you finish applying your blush. You know how it goes, bronzer-blush-highlighter.

BRIDGE OF THE NOSE

Using contour to make your nose look slimmer is a good trick. Applying highlighter on the bridge of the nose and on the tip of the nose after contour and blending it well will make your nose look slimmer.

UNDER THE BROW BONE

After you are done filling in your eyebrows and shaping them perfectly, add a touch of highlighter underneath the brow bone. What will this do? It will help sculpt your brow arch and make your eyes look bigger.

INNER CORNER OF THE EYES

Applying just a touch of highlighter on the inner corner of your eyes will make your eyes look a bit brighter and help you look awake.

CUPID’S BOW

Just a touch of highlighter applied on the Cupid’s bow will give the illusion of fuller lips.

A little trick, if you want your highlighter to look more matte than shiny use a concealer that is two shades lighter instead and apply just like you apply your highlighter.
